The concept is quite easy.

The geometry of a standard distillation surface of any equipment or component (trays, potstills, condensers, lyne arms…) is designed to optimise the thermodynamics and  fluid dynamics of streams being distilled.

Thermodynamics works mainly on a macroscopic level, by its definition.

Fluid dynamics works also on microscopic level, so micro-geometry of a distillation surface can be optimised to improve certain flow conditions. Laminar and turbulent flows, boundary layer mass and heat transfer, vorticity, bubbling, are all phenomena that can be controlled and optimised acting on a micro-scale.

However both thermodynamics and fluid dynamics are not sensitive to the  nanogeometry of a surface.

The nano world is where chemistry rules.

So the idea is that improving the geometry on a nanometric level can improve chemical reactions without affecting the thermodynamics and fluid dynamics that have been optimised on macro and micro levels.

HOW IT WORKS

NANO PARTICLES

FOR

BIG SOLUTIONS

At Green Engineering we have intensively researched the use of nanoparticles of copper in the development of ‘Advanced Distillation Surfaces’ to greatly increase the effectiveness of copper to remove undesired compounds.

The foremost effects of using nano particles (i.e. reducing the dimensions of the crystals) has been the exponential increase of the contact surface and quantistic effects, including the Heisemberg effect; an increase of energy gap between VB (valence bonds) and CB (covalent bonds) i.e. higher energies involved in interactions.

The combined effect of an exponential increase of the contact surface and the increased activity of the nanoparticles has resulted in the development of distillation surfaces with a very strong ability to catch mercaptans and other undesired compounds.

3 Specific nanocopper technologies are currently available, and they allow to cover any specific application in any kind of distilleries, from a small boutique distillery with just one pot still, to the biggest and most complex continuous distillery.

The result of the research has been protected with an international patent achieved through a PCT application.

Our scientists are ready to help you with tailored solutions that can be quickly applied to increase product quality and consistency.

Our patented nanocopper technology can be applied to distillation columns for the production of Vodka, Rum, Grain Whiskey, Extra Neutral Alcohol or any other spirit. Both distillation trays and random packing solutions are available.

Our Pot Stills can be equipped with our patented nanocopper technology for superior quality and consistency in the production of spirits like Gin, Whisky, Rum or any other spirit. Existing distilleries can be equipped with our patented nanocopper technology using dedicated solutions.
